Dawson Creek Secondary School will be offering a Ministry Approved Hockey Academy for the 2011/2012 school year integrated inside the normal school timetable.
The academy will be open to boys and girls in grades 8 through 12 who are Dawson Creek Secondary students as of the 2011/12 school year.
Priority for registration will be given to students who are currently registered at South Peace Secondary School, Central Middle School and elementary schools in the Dawson Creek area. This includes students who are currently in Grade 7 and plan to attend Dawson Creek Secondary in September 2011
The academy will be a joint venture between Dawson Creek Secondary and the Pacific Rim Hockey Academy. PRHA operates a number of integrated hockey academies in secondary schools across the province of B.C. (Districts 42, 43, 35 & 59).
The cost will be$1,120.00 - $224.00 per month (includes HST) for (5 months) a semester 1 in-school credit approved program-September 2011 to January 2012. A $224 deposit is required at time of registration. $224 Deposit is fully refundable up June 30/11. All other refunds are at the discretion of the Academy Administration.
The program includes on ice sessions, off-ice conditioning, nutrition, special events, sport psychology, tactical, performance testing, guest speakers, volunteering, work experience and more. The academy will include 3 on ice sessions and 2 off ice sessions each week throughout the semester. Please note that other academy activities offered will be scheduled in leau of on ice or off ice sessions as required.
There will be two professional/certified on ice hockey instructors and one goaltending instructor as well as a trained academic teacher from South Peace Secondary on the ice at all times. * Goaltending instruction will be provided if there is sufficient demand. (2-4 goaltenders)
The hockey academy operates within the normal school timetable and does not interfere with minor hockey and or school sports. Hockey Academy students participate in their respective minor hockey associations.
Students will be given four PE credits upon successful completion of the program.
